Strawberries, pheasants and a fallen giant

We headed off to Goodwood Racecourse this morning for a walk in nearby woodland that promised to be butterfly friendly. It was cloudy on and off, but we started the walk in bright sunshine and did not see one butterfly.
The ride forming the public footpath was wide with Bugles, Cowslips, Primroses and Wild strawberries (above) in flower.
A giant had recently collapsed.

The end of the walk was marked by a great downland view and a pheasant couple that bade us farewell after disturbing their peace.
