Tiger in the forest

Green Tiger Beetle, Cicindela campestris
There was sun and cloud this morning when I arrived at the Whiteways car park near Arundel. This was my first visit to the Houghton Forest site for the Pearl-bordered Fritillary that Paul Day discovered last year. It is a very interesting site and when the sun shone there were plenty of PBFs flying and fighting on the slope. It was much easier to follow them than in Rewell Wood, though sometimes they were flying so fast it was impossible to keep up. There were also plenty of male and female Orange-tips and a couple of Peacocks. Mark joined me and we had fun photographing the fast moving Green Tiger Beetle that I found.
