I made several visits to Kithurst Meadow a week ago when the weather was dull, and a Small Blue was the only butterfly seen. Emperor moth larvae (3rd instar) were eating dogwood and a female Broad-bodied Chaser perched in the middle of the clump. I estimate I saw 100+ Diamond-back Moths all over the site on one day. These small (10mm) moths have come over from the continent in their millions recently.
