On Saturday I joined 50 other nature recorders at the Knepp Castle Estate. Charlie Burrell was our excellent host and he explained the rewilding project. The idea was to wander round the southern area of the estate and record
whatever fauna and flora we were interested in. There weren’t many butterflies
around, but I was able to photograph a new micro moth, Beautiful Demoiselles
and a female Broad-bodied Chaser. One of the advantages of being with
specialists is that you get to see rarities like Adder’s Tongue and Narrow-leaved
Vetch, subspecies nigra . The weather was perfect, not too hot, and the company good.

| 10 years ago this was arable land. It is now brambles, oak clusters and other flora. I saw dozens of Cinnabar Moths due to the larval foodplant Ragwort. |
