Clouded Yellow, Colias croceus, nectaring on Devil's Bit Scabius |
We returned from Yorkshire on Sunday, calling in at Derby on the way to see our new great niece Martha, fast growing Eleanor and tired but proud Mum & Dad. I have lots of northern photos to post over the next week.
Yesterday I took advantage of the blue sky to do my Mill Hill transect. The butterfly numbers have diminished since my last visit, but I was pleased to see Clouded Yellows and Walls: Clouded Yellow 2, Common blue 4, Whites 2, Meadow Brown 10, Small Heath 6, Speckled Wood 4, Wall 3.
I then visited Widewater Lagoon and found Wheatears, at least 5 Little Egrets, 3 Clouded Yellows, Common Blues and large whites. I am guessing there has been an influx of butterflies from the continent recently.
