Heyshott Brimstone and a Ratty

Water Vole, Arvicola amphibius
Wednesday started with the weekly Heyshott work party. We have almost completed the clearance of the bowl which looks very neat and will hopefully attract a female Duke of Burgundy from the nearby colony next year. We saw a male and a female Brimstone during this sunny morning. The female landed at the base of a beach hedge. We marked where it had walked into the leaf cover but couldn’t find it later. The male landed on a leaf and posed well. On the way home I stopped at Burton Mill lake and enjoyed the view. Then I called in at Arundel WWT and came across a Water Vole feeding by the pond at the end of the Reed Bed walk near the bird feeders.
