Woodland bugs and pearls

Plant bug, Lygus pratensis

On Saturday I assisted with the Sussex Search and Rescue exhibit at the Horsham Hospital Fete. The weather was kind and two visitors expressed an interest in running for us at the London Marathon.  As we are a self funded charity these are very welcome offers.
Auctioneer Rupert Toovey opened the fete and talked to the SusSAR crew

On Sunday I visited different parts of Rewell Wood twice. In the morning I found two bug species. The Plant bug is a new one for me. In the afternoon I had 27 sightings of Pearl-bordered Fritillaries between 5 and 6:40pm, including many brief mid-air fights. Then  I found 2 roosting specimens on buddleia. I also saw 2 Speckled Yellow moths and a Brown Silver-line moth.

I spotted this shieldbug and bent the buddleia twig over to get a closer look. Only then did I spot the Pearl nearby. It pays to be curious!
