Purple, Gold and Yellowhammer

Yellowhammer, Emberiza citrinella
This morning I met Mark at Chantry Hill to look for the Green Hairstreaks that Neil had reported. We saw about 12, but they were all in flight and the wind carried them and they were impossible to follow. I found several Small Purple and Gold moths. I was pleased when Mark found a  Bloody-nosed Beetle. This was a favourite from a school journey to Dorset in 1959! I spotted two Grizzled Skippers and a Large white flew past. At the top of the hill a Yellowhammer inspected his large territory, and obligingly landed on an  ant hill 20 meters in front of me.
