Kithurst delivers Small Blues and a Duke

Orange-tip, Anthocharis cardamines

On Wednesday the cloudy conditions were perfect at the Kithurst Hill meadow. Early on I found a Small Blue in the bowl. An Orange-tip flew along the bank by the road and obligingly stopped for a rest. A Red Kite soared overhead at 12:15. When the sun appeared briefly a Duke of Burgundy landed in front of me and fluttered around his territory at the north end of the meadow. Another Small Blue flew around the meadow then a Dingy Skipper presented himself. A Green Lacewing danced under the canopy of a Sallow and three moths completed an excellent day out.
