This morning I did my Mill Hill butterfly transect. I parked my car by a buddleia and saw 2 Small Tortoiseshells and a Red Admiral on this butterfly magnet. Transect  results:   Adonis Blue 121, Chalkhill Blue 8, Common Blue 11, Gatekeeper 10, Holly Blue 1, Meadow Brown 305, Peacock 1, Red Admiral 6, Small Heath 3, Small Tortoiseshell 4, Speckled Wood 4, Wall 14, Small White 1. The Adonis second brood are booming and this was the largest number of Walls I have ever seen in one place. Then I visited Steyning Downland and met a group from Mayfield who were also hunting for the elusive Brown Hairstreaks.
