Rewell and Southwater

Yesterday morning I arrived at Southwater Woods hoping for some good sightings. I saw 2 Silver-washed Fritillaries, including a very torn specimen resting on bracken near a Large Skipper. There were intermittent showers and only Meadow Browns and Ringlets fluttered around. I then visited Rewell Wood where I had found the male Silver-washed Fritillary last time. It was there again in the same place near the Turkey Oak. It was hunkered down in a shrub and as soon as it saw me it climbed up the stem and flew off. A Red Admiral nectared on buddleia nearby. Mullein moth caterpillars were grazing on mullein leaves which also harboured a Hairy Shieldbug. I then found several Marbled Whites in the meadow and one landed on a tall Marsh Thistle. Meadow Browns and Ringlets also fluttered about.
