Sue and I went for a walk in Rewell Wood Sunday evening, but were too early for the Nightjars. There were clumps of Columbine in a grassy area, including
an interesting purple variety. I found 4
moths: Cream Wave, Dark Strawberry Tortrix, Red Piecer and White-pinion Spotted. Wild strawberry was fruiting.
Yesterday I met Mark again at Iping Common car park where we
enjoyed spotting and photographing the great variety of insects. I saw 8 Moths:
Common Bright, Common Sweep larva, Grey Gorse Piercer, Marbled White Spot,
Yellow-barred Longhorn, Speckled Yellow, Green Longhorn and Fleabane Smudge. There
were also 8 bugs: Birch Catkin Bug, Birch Shieldbug, two Oncopsis
species of leafhopper, Meadow Plant Bug, a Mirid Bug, Liocoris tripustulatus, a Planthopper nymph, Issus coleoptratus. Plus 4 Sawflies: Macrophya ribis, two Pamphilius
species and Tenthredo livida.
