Beautiful Demoiselles and mating Hazel Leaf-roller Weevils

male Beautiful Demoiselle, Calopteryx virgo
Adonis Blue numbers have increased at Mill Hill since last week. Thursday's transect walk: Adonis Blue 21, Brimstone, Common Blue 3, Green Hairstreak 2, Peacock, Small Heath 3, Small Tortoiseshell, Small White, Speckled Wood, Cinnabar, Hook-streak Grass-veneer, Burnet Companion. Leaf Beetles were mating.  At the car park a Kestrel caught a lizard and ate it on a fence post.
Afterwards I visited Woods Mill NR where Common Blue Damselflies were abundant, also Large Red Damselflies seen. I heard and saw one of the 3 Turtle Doves which have been reported there.

On Friday I took Sue to Woods Mill and we heard a Turtle Dove and saw two Beautiful Demoiselles and the nesting Coot. Hazel Leaf-roller Weevils were mating and a fresh Snout moth lay on a nettle leaf. I also saw a Drinker moth larva and a Green Tortoise Beetle.
