First butterfly of the year

Red Admiral, Vanessa atalanta
We have attended two excellent conferences recently. Firstly, the Sussex Ornithological Society’s conference was held at Haywards Heath on January 31st.  Then on February 7th the Sussex Biological Recorders Seminar was held at Hassocks. Both had great speakers on a variety of interesting subjects and we thoroughly enjoyed them.
On Tuesday I participated in a Sussex Search and Rescue call-out near Pease Pottage which resulted in finding the remains of a local man who went missing last May: http://bit.ly/1Ee300j
I saw my first butterfly of the year, a Red Admiral which landed on bracken by the roadside.
On Thursday I joined Murray Downland Trust members John, Mike and Andy at Heyshott escarpment for another conservation work party.

The rain kept me indoors on Wednesday and today
Bracket fungus, Ganoderma species
Trentepohlia algae on tyre
