Woodland roosters, orchids and a Black Widow

Red Admiral, Vanessa atalanta
I walked through a local woodland in the evening recently and disturbed two butterflies from their roosts – a Red Admiral and a Speckled Wood. There were lovely clusters of Common Spotted Orchids under the canopy. While clearing out the garage I found a handsome False Black Widow spider, which can give a nasty bite.
Common Spotted-orchid, Dactylorhiza fuchsii
Speckled Wood, Pararge aegeria
False Black Widow, Steatoda grossa
