Butterfly August

Common Blues mating, Polyommatus icarus

I met Mark at Kithurst meadow on Saturday. It was very hot so the meadow was heaving with butterflies. It was good to see Clouded Yellows (two males, one female). Also Gatekeepers, Brimstone, Chalkhill Blue, Brown Argus, Holly Blue, Peacock, Red Admiral, Silver-washed Fritillary, Small Copper and Common Blue.

On the south-west slope of Cissbury Ring on Monday I saw many Common Blues mating plus Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Chalkhill Blue and various moths: Common Grass-veneer, Cinnabar larvae, Syncopacma species micro-moth, looper larva on a Nettle-leaved Bellflower, Pearl Veneer, Rush Veneer.
