Ferring Rife, West Wittering and Ringed Plovers

Ringed Plover, Charadrius hiaticula
On Monday we wandered along Ferring Rife in a cool wind. I didn’t spot any Small Tortoiseshells but we met Neil who counting considerably less than the previous week, no doubt due to the lower temperature.
On Tuesday I visited West Wittering beach and spotted a flock of Linnets flitting over the dunes. Sanderlings were scurrying along the water’s edge and Dunlin were feeding by the inner water. Sea Spurge added a splash of colour among the Marram Grass and Skylarks sang high above the dunes.

On my return the late afternoon light encouraged me to look for Ringed Plovers on a local beach.
