Common Blue, Polyommatus icarus |
On Tuesday I visited Mill Hill for my weekly transect with
these results: Brimstone 1, Chalkhill Blue 19,
Clouded Yellow 2, Common Blue 34, Gatekeeper 69,
Green-veined White 1, Holly Blue 1, Meadow Brown 126, Painted Lady 1, Red
Admiral 3, Small Tortoiseshell 1, Small White 1, Wall 2. The Clouded Yellows
flew at mach 1 all over the hill but one finally stopped to refuel.
Later at Woods Mill reserve I watched Beautiful Demoiselles
dancing around a stream and a Migrant Hawker zoomed along a path. I found a tiny case-bearing larva 4mm long walking on my camera which turned out to be a Green Lacewing larva. A Turtle Dove
called and settled on a tree stump - a first for me. The sun was right behind
it. A Median Wasp settled on a window sill at home.
