Black Hairstreaks and moths at Ditchling Common

Bee Orchid, Ophrys apifera
During a visit to Ditchling Common yesterday morning I joined dozens of Black Hairstreak hopefuls who were waiting for the sun to appear. When the clouds cleared in the afternoon there was quite a bit of activity high up and I got a good view of this elusive butterfly.
I found a Brown Hairstreak larva, saw Large Skipper, Small Heath and 12 moths: Garden Grass-veneer, Straw Dot, Yellow-barred Longhorn female, a tiny Brindled Argent (Argyresthia curvella) under an apple leaf, Brown Silver-line, Burnet Companion, Common Yellow Conch, Hook-streak Grass-veneer, Large Fruit-tree Tortrix male, Marbled Orchard Tortrix, Speckled Fanner, Variegated Golden Tortrix.
