Hunting for the Golden Birdwing

Papilio rumanzovia, Scarlet Swallowtail

On Thursday I met Mark at the Wisley Butterfly exhibition again. Our target was the Golden Birdwing butterfly. We were told that one had hatched out, but it had moved from the papaya tree by the time we got there. We spent the rest of the time looking for it, and after lunch  finally spotted it 30 feet away high up on the side of a tree. My 300mm lens did a good job, the top view images were from 50 feet away.

  2. the golden birdwing is actually Helena's birdwing (Troides helena)

and the butterfly in the photograph third from the bottom is not (Siproeta stelenes) Malachite but rather a Tailed Jay (Graphium agammemnon) in rest. :)

    cheers
