Fly agarics and Scarlet Caterpillarclubs

Fly Agaric, Amanita muscaria.

On Sunday I joined Mark on a fungi hunt. We first visited Fittleworth where 16 Fly Agarics were lurking by a country lane, the most I have seen of this poisonous fungus in one small area. Afterwards we visited Ebernoe Common where we found 9 Scarlet Caterpillarclubs. These fungi parasitise butterfly and moth larvae. There was some young Honey Fungus and white slime mould on a log. A Rush Veneer moth was attracted to our balcony light.
